Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center,
The Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library
serves and receives support from some 23 health science institutions,
including the following participating institutions:
Representatives from the above institutions make
up the HAM-TMC Library Board of Directors.
The HAM-TMC Library is also the Regional Medical
Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South
Central Region, with responsibility for the library needs of health
professionals in the 5 state region of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma,
New Mexico and Texas.
In addition, HAM-TMC Library maintains a collection
of consumer- and public-health materials as well as Houston
HealthWays, a consumer-health website.
Classes
The HAM-TMC Library teaches a number of classes relating to biomedical
research and writing. The class schedule
and the class registration form
are both available online.

Consortia Memberships
The HAM-TMC Library is a member of several
consortia which work together to share collections and resources.

Library materials are located
on the main and second floors. If you have difficulty finding an
item please ask for help at the Information or Circulation Desks.

Friends
The Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library is an organization
dedicated to encouraging community support of the Library with membership
open to anyone. If you are interested in joining or contributing
to the Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library, please contact

History
Founded in 1949, the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical
Center Library is one of the leading biomedical libraries in the
United States. With joint governance by seven Texas Medical Center
institutions, the Library is a nationally unique example of collaboration.
Hours & Holidays
The Library is generally open every day for a total of 99 hours

Library Privileges
In general, faculty, students and staff from Participating
and Supporting Institutions of the Houston Academy of Medicine
- Texas Medical Center Library, as well as members of the Harris
County Medical Society are eligible for free HAM-TMC
Library cards.
Other individuals, organizations, or businesses
may acquire cards by purchasing HAM-TMC Library memberships. See

Parking
The Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library is
located in the Jesse H. Jones Library
Building in the Texas Medical Center. There is a parking
garage located beneath the building, entered from the East side.

Regional Medical Library
As one of eight, top-echelon Regional Medical Libraries in the National
Network of Libraries of Medicine program of the National
Library of Medicine, the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas
Medical Center Library serves the South
Central Region of the United States. This includes the states
of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
Statistics
The Library is visited by almost 1000 people each day and spends
over $1 million each year on print items and electronic resources.
