South Central Academic Medical Libraries
Consortium
The Library is a Participating Institution
in the South Central Academic Medical Libraries Consortium.
Covering the five-state area of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana,
Arkansas, and New Mexico, SCAMeL is dedicated to resource
sharing for the benefit of its fifteen members. Currently,
these efforts include cooperative collection development,
reciprocal agreements for document delivery and interlibrary
loan services, and a common database for locating items
in each other’s collections. SCAMeL member libraries also
partner with the HAM-TMC Library to serve as Resource
Libraries in the South Central Region of the National
Network of Libraries of Medicine. |
THSLC |
 |
Texas Health Science Libraries Consortium
The HAM-TMC Library serves as the technology
hub for the Texas Health Sciences Library Consortium.
Comprised of the five principal libraries in the Texas
Medical Center and the University of Texas Medical Branch
in Galveston, THSLC members cooperatively develop their
collections and contract collectively for an integrated
online catalog system and additional electronic databases.
As the manager of the Consortium’s electronic resources,
the Library negotiates licensing agreements and provides
distributed access to: MEDLINE, CancerLit, Current Contents,
the Britannica Online and the shared online catalog. |

TexShare - A Texas Library
Resource Sharing Program
Created by the 73rd Texas Legislature, the
goal of the TexShare Consortium is to “increase the intellectual
productivity of students and faculty by sharing access
to vast amounts of information available in the state,
but not owned by local libraries.” With 53 public university
and health science center members and $1 million in funds
trusteed to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board,
the TexShare Consortium has formidable collective buying
power and achieves great economies of scale. As an active
TexShare member, the HAM-TMC Library can provide its clientele
with free access to business and general periodical databases
with 750 publications included in a fulltext format. The
TexShare Library Card Program is a significant step toward
a statewide library card system. For more information,
inquire at the Circulation Desk 713.799.7147. |

University of Texas System Libraries
By joining the University of Texas System
Libraries Consortium, the HAM-TMC Library is part of a
19-member digital library initiative that contracts system-wide
for electronic resources. Access to the CINAHL (Cumulated
Index to Nursing and Allied Health) and PsycLit (Psychological
Abstracts) databases is provided through the Consortium.
The Consortium also spearheads the development of digitized
collections of documents, manuscripts, photographs, and
audio and video recordings that highlight the uniqueness
of Texas. The first of these is the Border Cultures Collection
Project, chronicling the rich and diverse culture that
has developed over the years along the Texasmexico border. |
