Descriptions: First funded by Congress in 2005, the Effective Health Care Program funds and synthesizes the findings of teams of researchers and clinicians across North America, to identify ways to improve the quality of health care through evidence-based decision-making. Research summaries are available for consumers (many with Spanish translations), clinicians and policy-makers. Also for patients, short videos on treatment options, helpful comparative charts on the effectiveness of different treatments for various conditions. Many resources in various formats are provided. The Program invites comments and topic research/review suggestions, and data deposit by medical professionals. Links are provided to plug-ins for viewing video content.

F1000 Posters

Descriptions: F1000Posters is an open-access repository of posters and slides in biology and medicine. Most are the normally ephemeral products of conference presentations, representing preliminary, unpublished research. F1000 gives this valuable and unique work a permanent home and makes it a resource for all. This provides a mutual benefit for authors and the scientific community, affording an opportunity to share findings and thus further develop ideas and research. More than 5,000 posters have been deposited here as of 2013, in a wide range of biological and medical fields and specialties. Also includes a list of upcoming conferences.

Descriptions: GHDx is a catalog of the world's health and demographic data. Use the GHDx to research population census data, surveys, registries, indicators and estimates, administrative health data, and financial data related to health. The provider, the IHME, is an educational and research public health organization, and provides fellowships at the bachelor's and graduate levels. IHME publishes the BioMed Central journal, Population Health Metrics, and various open-access reports. There are many interesting resources here. It includes substance information, compound structures, and bioactivity data in three primary databases: PCSubstance, PCCompound and PCBioAssay. PCSubstance contains more than 12 million records; PCCompound contains more than 7 million unique structures; and PCBioAssay contains more than 200 bioassays.

Descriptions: The SCOPUS database contains millions of records from 10,150 life and health sciences publications (including all journals contained in Medline and EmBase) and includes most other sciences and humanities-- coverage of 20,450 journal titles. SCOPUS also indexes the proceedings of 750 conferences.  Searching also pullsl in relevant Web resources, organized under a separate tab. Another tab separates patent results from patent offices in the US and worldwide. SCOPUS provides a Journal Analyzer tool that graphs journals, singly or for comparison, from 1996 to present, showing total citations, number of articles published, total cites divided by number of articles, and the percentage of non-cited articles. Affiliation searching is also provided.
