|Abstract:||The Bela Halpert, MD papers document the career of Dr. Bela Halpert, who made significant contributions in the area of Pathology. This collection focuses on the research of Dr. Bela Halpert and Dr. Carl Langenbuch, a German surgeon in the late 19th Century. Bela Halpert was born in Hungary in 1896. He received his medical degree from the German University in Prague. He held positions as pathologist, instructor, professor, and fellow at German University, Johns Hopkins Medical School, University of Chicago, William Harvey Cushing Memorial Hospital, Yale University as well as various institutions in New Orleans and Oklahoma. He came to Houston in 1949 where he served as chief of laboratory services for the Veterans Administration and professor of pathology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Bela Halpert, MD donated the papers to the Houston Academy of Medicine – Texas Medical Center Library. The Collection was received and organized by Elizabeth White. The material underwent minimal in-house conservation by the archivists. The Collection was processed to Tier Level 2 by Albert Duran, project archivist under the direction of the McGovern Archivist from early April 2016.
The Collection was reviewed to establish or re-establish the order. Materials were mostly already interleaved with archival bond. Original Order of the collection has been maintained. The folders are arranged as they were received from Dr. Halpert. The folder headings are those he assigned or are taken from the envelopes.
No accurals are expected for this collection.
