American Veterinary Medical Association: Disaster Preparedness

Description: The AVMA has posted a large amount of detailed, very useful information on providing for pets and livestock in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency- before, during and after- in the form of printable brochures and a comprehensive booklet for animal owners called "Saving the Whole Family." These documents are provided in Spanish as well as English. For veterinary professionals, the Emergency Preparedness and Response Guide (over 400 pages) is freely available from the website for download or printing. AMSA (American Medical Student Association) PharmFree Scorecard

Description: AMSA advocates for "evidence-based rather than marketing-based prescribing practices" and analyzes "...the presence or absence of a policy regulating the interactions between... medical campuses and the pharmaceutical and device industries" with the goal of eliminating conflicts of interest. The scorecard measures policy on gifts, speaking engagements, consulting, purchasing and disclosure, as well as other factors, and gives an overall grade to each campus listed.
