Common health and safety concerns surrounding the aftermath of hurricanes are addressed. Information compiled for the benefit of specific groups-- health care professionals, citizens with chronic conditions or disabilities, shelters (housing humans or pets), response and cleanup workers, evacuees, schools and pregnant women is also provided here. Descriptions: The AVMA has posted a large amount of detailed, very useful information on providing for pets and livestock in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency- before, during and after- in the form of printable brochures and a comprehensive booklet for animal owners called "Saving the Whole Family." These documents are provided in Spanish as well as English. For veterinary professionals, the Emergency Preparedness and Response Guide (over 400 pages) is freely available from the website for download or printing.
