Descriptions: From the website: RxNorm provides standard names for clinical drugs... and for dose forms as administered to a patient. It provides links from clinical drugs, both branded and generic, to their active ingredients, drug components (active ingredient + strength), and related brand names... RxNorm links its names to many of the drug vocabularies commonly used in pharmacy management and drug interaction software, including... First Databank, Micromedex, MediSpan, Gold Standard Alchemy, and Multum. By providing links between these vocabularies, RxNorm can mediate messages between systems not using the same software and vocabulary. RxNorm is one of a suite of designated standards for use in U.S. Federal Government systems for the electronic exchange of clinical health information.

Medical Product Safety Network (MEDSUN)

Over 350 health care facilities, primarily hospitals, participate in the entire MedSun network." Descriptions: Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD) enables one to look up full label information and search for text within labels for all dietary supplements. Search by brand name, active ingredients or manufacturer. The information available may include adverse effects, mechanism of action and FDA warnings and recalls. Records for on- and off-market supplements are included. The aim is to provide label information for all supplements on the market, so that DSLD will serve as a resource for longitudinal studies on the trends in dietary supplement product availability and formulation in the U.S. as well as for the demographics of their use.

It can be searched and consulted online, or the annual edition and monthly cumulative supplements can be downloaded in .pdf format. The Electronic Orange Book provides daily updates of new generic drug approvals. Search by active ingredient, proprietary name, patent, application number or application holder. If a newly-approved drug product is not turned up in the search, use the search box at top right of the page to find results from the Orange Book's monthly supplements and other FDA sources.
