L. Maximilian Buja, MD, will present “Operating on a Moving Organ – Challenges and Solutions for Surgery of the Heart and Blood Vessels: An Historical Account” at the BioMedical Engineering Society Industry Chapter Meeting on Friday, April 3rd 2015 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) Abercrombie Building B1-Level, TCH Auditorium located at 6621 Fannin St. Houston, TX 77030.
Dr.Buja is Executive Director, Houston Academy of Medicine – Texas Medical Center Library, and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical School, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) after serving as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 2003 until 2009 and Dean of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston from 1996 until 2003. As Dean, Dr. Buja provided leadership for a period of enhancement of the educational, research and clinical service programs. He coordinated the effort for recovery of the Medical School following Tropical Storm Allison in 2001.
As Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Buja led the effort to compile the compliance document leading to successful reaffirmation of accreditation of UTHSC-H by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 2010.
As Executive Director of the HAM-TMC Library, Dr. Buja is leading this institution’s quest for excellence as a world-class leader in the delivery and development of biomedical information.
