Dr. Clinton B. Herrick&#8217;s &#8220;Railway Surgery: a handbook on the management of injuries&#8221; is quite an interesting book. The library&#8217;s resource management assistant Mireille Clark discovered the book in the stacks and passed it on to a rare book librarian.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-2228 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/railway-surgery.jpg\" alt=\"railway-surgery\" width=\"390\" height=\"511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/railway-surgery.jpg 2929w, https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/railway-surgery-229x300.jpg 229w, https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/railway-surgery-768x1005.jpg 768w, https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/railway-surgery-783x1024.jpg 783w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/>Herrick wrote at a time when railroad hospitals could be found in cities, such as Houston. He notes that railroad injuries had some commonalities, including steam burns, crushing injuries and limb injuries caused by the nature of the business.
