The Johns Hopkins regalia is pretty snazzy, but it was the Eisenhower jacket that caught my attention today.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2245\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2245\" style=\"width: 3024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2245\" src=\"http:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/denton-cooleys-jacket.jpg\" alt=\"Denton-Cooley's-jacket\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/denton-cooleys-jacket.jpg 3024w, https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/denton-cooleys-jacket-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/library.tmc.edu\/mcgovern\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/denton-cooleys-jacket-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3024px) 100vw, 3024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Denton Cooley&#8217;s U.S. Army Eisenhower jacket.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nMs. Houchin is the former administrative director of cardiovascular surgery for the Texas Heart Institute where she worked for more than 30 years with Dr. Cooley. She is a close friend of the Cooley family, who gave her the garments to donate to the McGovern Historical Center.<br \/>\nDr. Cooley probably wore the Eisenhower jacket when he served in the U.S. Army in Linz, Austria with the 124th Station Hospital between 1946 and 1948.<br \/>\nThe Eisenhower jacket is a waist-length jacket with pleated back, adjustable waist band, fly-front buttons, bellows chest pockets, slash side pockets and shoulder straps. The jacket is made of 18-ounce wool serge, and it is heavy. This jacket still looks sharp and is in excellent condition for a 69-year-old article of military clothing.<br \/>\nSoon I will tell you about the academic regalia.
