posting.<br \/>\nSmall <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Philips-AVENT-iQ24-Steam-Sterilizer\/dp\/B001C3MHF0\">steam sterilizers<\/a> are sold today for sterilizing baby pacifiers, bottles, and nipples.\u00a0 Some are even designed to be heated in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.target.com\/Avent-Express-Microwave-Steam-Sterilizer\/dp\/B000056OUH\">microwave oven<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Autoclave\">Autoclaves<\/a>, which use both steam heat and pressure, are commonly used today to sterilize surgical packs.\u00a0 The one we used at the veterinarian&#8217;s office was about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifelinemedical.net\/_images\/manautoclave-01b.jpg\">size of a large television<\/a>.\u00a0 The autoclave was originally <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Chamberland\">invented in the 1870&#8217;s<\/a> and, logically but perhaps surprisingly, is a close cousin to the pressure cooker.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canningpantry.com\/using-pressure-canners.html\">Pressure canners<\/a> are basically autoclaves for home-bottled food.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Alethea Drexler archives assistant We&#8217;re back!
