She then went on hold positions in the Baystate Medical Center Library in Springfield, MA, the University of Massachusetts Medical School Library in Worcester, MA, and the Thomas Jefferson University Scott Memorial Library in Philadelphia, PA.
Sibley has been active in numerous library-related professional groups including the Medical Library Association, the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the International Federation of Library Associations and has held a variety of positions and served on a number of their committees and working groups. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals and a member of Beta Phi Mu International Library & Information Studies Honor Society.
George Stancel, Ph.D., Senior Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs at UTHealth, and current Chair of the TMC Library Board led the search for the Executive Director. “We’re delighted to welcome Debbie Sibley to this leadership position that is so important to Texas Medical Center institutions. Debbie is an experienced, nationally recognized leader within the medical library community. I am confident she will provide outstanding leadership and direction to our library, and the Library Board is eagerly looking forward to working with her.”
Stancel also expressed appreciation to Stephanie Fulton who has led both the TMC Library and the MD Anderson Research Medical Library since April 2016. “Either one of these positions is more than a full-time job, and Stephanie’s leadership has enabled the TMC Library to continue providing important services to the faculty, students, and staff of our member institutions. We are all very grateful to her.”
Fulton will continue to serve as Interim Director of the TMC Library until Sibley assumes the role. Fulton will then resume her full-time responsibilities as Executive Director of the Research Medical Library at MD Anderson Cancer Center and will also continue to serve as a member of the TMC Library Board at that time.
