Free and Open-Access Resources

The TMC Library provides links to a selective and expanding collection of authoritative free and open-access journals, databases, and websites/web applications. We also link to resources in general sciences, education, and reference. Click the links below to view these collections.

About Open-Access Journals

Tips to help you locate free, reputable online articles:

  • Search PubMed. Click article titles in search results to view abstracts. Check for a Free Article logo at right – numerous open-access journals are indexed for PubMed, and the number of free articles available in subscription journals is increasing. Many of the free articles cited in PubMed/Medline are in PubMed Central and BioMed Central.
  • View the Open-Access Journals within our list of databases.
  • The Online Journals & Books page, commonly referred to as the A-Z List, offers search options by title or title word, medical subject heading (MeSH), or by publisher/provider collection.

Free/Open-Access Databases
To find free databases, select the sorting option “free” or “open access”; browse alphabetically, enter a keyword, or choose from an existing record’s keywords to generate a list of related resources. Many free resources may be of interest to various academic or consumer groups. Some databases require you to register to get full access to all features.

Websites and Web Applications
Content of most websites offered on the Library’s site is free.  Browse alphabetically, enter a keyword in the search box, or click a keyword in one of the records for a list of related websites.
