Descriptions: The Hastings Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit bioethics research institute that addresses fundamental ethical issues in health, medicine and the environment. The Center’s research addresses bioethics issues in three broad areas: care and decision making at the end of life, public health priorities, and new and emerging technologies. Research is done by interdisciplinary teams that frame and examine issues that inform professional practice, public conversation, and social policy. Includes a bioethics forum and news items. Abstracts of articles from the Hastings Center Report and the Center's other publications are available, along with occasional free articles from these publications.

Descriptions: This online book from the Hastings Center is the collaborative effort of various Hastings Center writers and outside journalists. The Bioethics Briefing Book "seeks to inform debate surrounding thirty-six of the most controversial bioethics topics in the media today." Each chapter begins with an entry highlighting the debated points of the issue, and a comprehensive overview of its various facets follows. Links to information on relevant legislation, 2008 Presidential campaign and party platform positions and links to websites, news items and further reading resources are provided. A few of the topics covered are: gene patents; family-provided long-term care; nanotechnology; abortion; organ transplantation; and stem cells. This book is offered as a free download in .pdf format.
