Descriptions: The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) is a suite of healthcare databases and related software tools developed through a Federal-State-Industry partnership to build a multi-state system of healthcare databases supportive of research and decision-making. HCUP databases contain a core set of clinical and non-clinical information found in a typical patient discharge abstract: listed diagnoses and procedures, status at time of discharge, patient demographics, and charges regardless of payer (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, or uninsured.) The information is translated into a single format to facilitate both multi-state and national-to-state comparisons. HCUP is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as part of its mission to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the U.S. healthcare system.

Input a disease name, and generate a series of graphs illustrating prevalence, average age of onset, sex distribution, medical coverage and more. Use the disease name as a cause of death, and mortality statistics are presented. Apps are now available to download for use with iPhone, iPad and Android.
