Katie Prentice Appointed Executive Director of TMC Library

Katherine A. Prentice (Katie) has been appointed Executive Director of the TMC Library effective December 7, 2020.  She replaces Debbie Sibley, Executive Director since August 2017.

Prentice, a native Texan, comes to Houston from the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa where she was the Associate Director of the Schusterman Library and an Associate Professor. She was responsible for many daily operations of the Library and assessment of library services. Prior to her tenure at OU – Tulsa, she served in several positions at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, including Head of Education and Information Services.

Prentice has been active in numerous library-related professional groups including the Medical Library Association and the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA). She currently serves as the President of SCC/MLA. She has participated on several committees and working groups in both organizations. Additionally, she has completed several leadership training programs including the NLM/AAHSL Fellows Program and the Harvard Leadership Institute. She was also an SCC/MLA-SCAMeL Emerging Leader Fellowship Award winner.

Eric Solberg, Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs at UTHealth, and current Chair of the TMC Library Board led the search for the Executive Director.  “We are excited to welcome Katie Prentice back to Texas, and specifically to this leadership position that is so important to Texas Medical Center institutions.  With nearly two decades in health sciences libraries, including nine years with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Briscoe Library, the Library Board is confident that Katie will provide outstanding leadership and direction to our library.”
