Daniel J. McCarty, MD, was a rheumatologist specializing in pseudogout, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition to being a visiting professor at the University of Texas Medical School, he taught at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, the University of Chicago Medical School, and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He supervised the founding of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Arthritis Institute in 1989.
His archival papers at the McGovern Historical Center primarily relate to the Arthritis Foundation and the American Rheumatism Association (now called the American College of Rheumatology). Documents relate to committees, the board, and other subjects of professional interest. The records relating to these organizations come from the late 1970s and 1980s. In addition, the collection contains a number of reprints, which date as early as 1960.
