John L. Decker was Chief of Rheumatology at the National Institutes of Health beginning in 1965. Between the years 1983-1990, Dr. Decker served as Director of the Warren G. Magnuson Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health. He conducted research and authored publications in the fields of rheumatism, genetic rheumatism, arthritis, hypertension, ulcers, osteoporosis, and was an authority on systemic lupus erythematosus.

His archival collection at the McGovern Historical Center reflects his research and publications, as well as his extensive professional involvement, travel, and lectures. While Dr. Decker was not affiliated with the TMC, his papers make up a part of the McGovern Historical Center’s distinctive Rheumatology collections.
